Let's get one thing straight, I am good at sleeping. I sleep long and I sleep hard; I've never had any problems with sleep.

Enter last week.

An internal alarm clock suddenly started waking me at 4am. And then it started filling my brain with thoughts – random thoughts – like I wonder what would happen if I made a cookie with butterscotch and pretzels or is it too early to find candy corns at the market? (Funny how these random thoughts all involve food, right?) And my brain started churning and refused to turn off. And then baby would get wind of my awakeness and decide to practice his back handsprings in utero. Crap.

After hours of tossing and turning I'd finally give in and get up. Might as well be productive, I'd say to the darkness. And by 3pm, I'd be toast. Four hours of sleep does not a happy pregnant lady make.

This has happened every single night for the past week. It's like I've rewired myself to suck at sleep. The our site sleep bible confirms that I'm not crazy though, offering this heartfelt affirmation: "Women in their third trimester have fewer periods of deep sleep and wake up more often during the night."

Awesome. As if I didn't already know I'm going to be screwed out of sleep in just 7 short weeks, yes...why wait, LET'S START NOW!
